From a family background in road transport it was predictable that Trevor Woolston would follow in the family footsteps.

However after a career of driving, owning and operating trucks the move into publishing was completely unpredicted. Frustrated by a lack of good New Zealand focused magazines on road transport and sick of reading Aussie trucking magazines he set about starting up New Zealand’s first independent road transport magazine, NZ Trucking.

Trucking was launched in March 1985 and quickly became New Zealand’s leading road transport publication.  In 1999 Woolston and his company launched truck racing into New Zealand following its success in Europe after meeting up with the European organisers at a Brisbane truck show. Also in that year Transport Exhibitions was launched which organised road transport industrial exhibitions for the next 12 years in New Zealand and also in Sydney Australia.

In 1995 Trucking was sold to INL Publishing and Woolston was employed as their industry magazine manager. This position was short lived however with strong growth of the exhibition company demanding more of his time he dedicated himself to this venture.

In 1998 the then CEO of the Road Transport Forum New Zealand Tony Friedlander contacted Trevor with a proposal to take over the Forums publication Transport News. Following a tendering process Allied Publications Ltd was launched and Transport News was discontinued and NZ Truck & Driver was launched. Its first issue went to press in March 1999 to coincide with the very successful Hopuhopu truck show and was an immediate success. It had more advertising support than other competing publications right from its first issue. Today it is by far the leading road transport publication in New Zealand.

As well as his passion for the road transport industry Woolston is also a keen game fisherman and spent five years as the President of the Bay of Islands Swordfish Club stepping aside when the club had reached a strong a stable situation. Through his passion for fishing the Truckers & Loggers Fishing Tournament was launched and today it is fully subscribed every year.

Trevor is still involved in the day to day operations of Allied Publications both through advertising sales and his favourite job test driving trucks for the magazines Big Test programme.

Allied Publications has now grown and is the publisher of  five titles which includes NZ Logger Magazine, Equipment Guide Magazine, Truckbody & Trailer Magazine and NZ Light Commercial Vehicle Magazine as well as several other company in house magazines.

Allied maintains a strong connection with Ia Ara Aotearoa Transporting New Zealand and works to promote the New Zealand road transport industry as a strong and vibrant industry and an important contributor to the New Zealand economy.
